If you are going to break your arm, do a good job of it I say.
I broke my arm at Maidstone winter league, on our last race in the division. My dog (Flash) had been hanging around at the box for another ball during racing in the morning so I had started running backwards from the start line to make sure he was turning.
On the last race I ran backwards and tried to turn while running and the side of my foot caught on the rubber matting and I went straight over, full weight and at speed onto my right arm. My arm broke and to add to it my hip landed heavy on my wrist.
Ironically Flash was turning perfect in that last heat so I needn't have done my pathetic attempt at a cartwheel. My team in true Dunkirk spirit carried on racing (I was 1st dog), while I writhed in agony, my dog was caught while the other 3 dogs raced, jumping over and around me as I stumbled to the back of the ring.
Worse still our next team went straight in to race in the next division while I propped myself up on some pallets. Someone had to be dragged out of the ring to take me to hospital such was the concern for me with my clumsy feet:)
I now have a metal plate in my arm and a wrist that doesn't move much but I still love flyball (a really safe sport).
Seriously though my team thought originally that I had just badly sprained my wrist, as did I, it is also very unusual for a dog or handler to hurt themselves badly. The worst that normally happens is a hurt pride and a bruised bottom.
No one was to blame for my accident apart from me stupidly running backwards on rubber matting instead of trusting that my dog was following.
